European Smart Metering Awards 2014 Winners
Eleven awards were up for grabs at this year’s European Smart Metering Awards 2014 held last night at ETC Venues in London. The 5th Annual awards ceremony is now regarded as the leading industry event honouring innovation and success in the industry. The judges were seeking to honour those driving the development of the smart metering industry in Europe and to award those who are at the forefront of Europe’s smart energy revolution.
The awards began with Telefonica winning the ‘Network & Communications Award’ for developing an adaptive technology suitable for the challenging needs of Energy and Water Utility. The second award, ‘The Home Energy Monitor Award’, was given to Chameleon Technology for its inclusivity-by-design approach and a technically robust product which was both engaging and intuitive. ‘The Smart Metering Technology of the Year Award’ was won by Siemens for their cost effective solutions for meter connectivity across long distances. Opower took home the highly coveted ‘Data Management and Solutions Award’ for their continued work in fundamentally changing the understanding of behavioural dynamics and energy demand. ‘The Smart Metering Service Provider Award’ was given to TOA Technologies who were praised for setting the industry an example in customer engagement. Current Cost were the deserved winner of the ‘Innovation of the Year Award’ for a dynamic technology which is both robust and future-proof. ‘The Smart Water Metering Innovation of the Year Award’ was scooped by Homerider systems, judges described their Wireless Platform as a big step forward in the smart transition. This years winner for the ‘Cyber Security Award’ goes to NXP Semiconductors for developing an adaptive platform to tackle ever changing cyber security threats.
Scottish Power notably took home two awards, ‘Roll-out Innovation of the Year Award’ and ‘Customer Service Innovation of the Year Award’. Scottish power were recognised for their dynamic implementation of pre-site surveys in their roll-out plan and their continued commitment to a customer-centric approach, developing new and creative ways to give better customer service.
‘The Utility of the Year Award’ however was awarded to British Gas for their continued focus on customer involvement through their opt in model and their recent track-record in convincing consumers of the benefits of smart metering.
The European Smart Metering Awards are an initiative of Oliver Kinross aimed at recognising the achievements of solution providers and utilities. All award entries were assessed and judged by an independent panel of industry experts. The awards were presented at an exclusive gala dinner at the ETC Venues, St Pauls in London, and the event was attended by key industry figures from all across Europe.
